If you ran your shop, ledger or team on Lio, the app that was called Register Book before it was renamed, you have probably seen it stop working. Lio's Android app has gone from Google Play, users have reported getting a notice that the service is being discontinued, and many small businesses in India and Indonesia are now asking the same thing: where do I keep my registers now, and can I get my data back?
This guide covers what we know about the Lio shutdown, how to rescue whatever data you can, and how to rebuild your Lio registers in Table Notes, the closest Lio alternative, with an honest look at what Table Notes does better and what it doesn't do.
What was Lio (Register Book)?
Lio, also listed as "Lio – Excel, Notebook, Register" and earlier as "Register Book", was made by Swific Technology Pvt. Ltd., a company based in Mumbai. It sold itself as a digital register and "mobile Excel" for small businesses: instead of a paper bahi-khata or a laptop spreadsheet, you kept your records as registers on your phone.

- Automatic customer messages for payment reminders, offers and reviews.

- 10+ languages, with users mainly in India, Indonesia, Brazil and Vietnam.
In its last years Lio also added CRM, project, invoicing and ticketing features, and it was installed millions of times on Android.
Has Lio shut down?
For most users, yes. Here's what is publicly visible:
- The last Android update was version 11.1.14 in February 2026.
- App trackers recorded the app as removed from Google Play in March 2026. The Play Store page now returns "not found", so it can no longer be installed.
- Users reported receiving a notice that the Lio service was being discontinued, and the iPhone app is no longer listed in the App Store in some countries.
- The company behind it now describes itself as a no-code AI platform for enterprise apps, so the consumer register app no longer appears to be its focus.
We have not seen a public statement from Swific explaining the closure or how long data will stay accessible. If you still have questions about your account, contact Lio's support directly, and do it soon.
Step 1: Rescue your Lio data now
Your registers are the important part, not the app. Before you uninstall anything:
- Don't uninstall Lio or clear its data if it still opens. As long as it opens, you can still read your records.
- Export each register if your version shows an export, download or share option (Excel or PDF). Save the files to Google Drive or email them to yourself.
- If export is missing, take screenshots of each register, or copy rows into a message to yourself. It's tedious, but it is your data.
- Search your phone and WhatsApp for PDF or Excel files you shared from Lio in the past. Old reports sent to customers or your accountant are often the most complete copy you have.
- Ask your team. If a register was shared, a colleague's phone may still open it.
Step 2: Move your registers into Table Notes
Table Notes works the way Lio users are used to: every register becomes a table, every entry a row, and every field a column with a type (Date, Amount, Phone, Checkbox and so on), so you tap instead of typing.
If you have an Excel file from Lio
- Install Table Notes from Google Play or the App Store and sign in with Google or email, so your data is backed up to your account.
- On the home screen, tap the pencil icon (Create New Table) and choose Upload Excel File.
- Pick your .xlsx or .xls file. Table Notes reads the column types from your data; on the next screen you can rename the table, pick the worksheet, choose the row where your data starts and change any column's type.
- Tap the tick to import. Your register is ready, with totals, filters and sharing.
Two things to check after import: short text values are set as Selectable (a pick-list) by default, which is great for "Paid / Pending" but not for names, so switch those columns to Text. And Excel functions like =SUM() aren't imported; use the column total at the bottom of the table instead.
If you only have PDFs or screenshots
Start from a template (Expenses, Product Catalogue, Contacts, Tasks and more) or a blank table, then add the rows. For long registers, the form entry screen is quicker than typing into cells.

- Formulas work across columns, not rows. Quantity × Rate works;
=SUM(A1:A20)doesn't, but every Number and Amount column has a total at the bottom. - Some features are Android-only, such as graphs and scheduled backups; the web version needs internet.

Other Lio alternatives
